DEAR DIARY…
Since late summer of 2025, Catherine’s Diary has been working together again as a loose studio project after 32 years. The duo first joined forces in the summer of 1993 under a different name to combine their different musical styles under one roof. The result was several songs on analog 8-track studio tape, some of which Catherine’s Diary has now re-recorded using a combination of modern digital studio technology and analog studio equipment from the late 1980s and early 1990s. If you were born in the 1970s and grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, what some people consider “nostalgic” is still cutting-edge technology for Catherine’s Diary. Derek Lance is an integral part of the project, occasionally joined by co-founder Jebo. The two work together in sessions and are connected, which gives each of them the opportunity to contribute their own ideas and pursue other projects and styles. It is a loose project with no fixed lineup. As normal guys, Catherine’s Diary don’t want to be spotlighted but value their privacy. It’s about bringing Catherine’s Diary’s music and ideas to the world, not their egos. What Catherine’s Diary plays can be classified as alternative lo-fi with subtle electronic influences. Or not. It’s up to the audience to decide what it is.
Catherine’s Diary uses Ibanez guitars and Marantz microphones, arranges digitally in Ableton with Amplitube and Melodyne, and records analog with studio equipment from Focusrite and Pioneer.
